The Piel Craftsmen   Sailor's Valentines

History: Sailors who sailed the oceans during the Age of Sail spent weeks in foreign ports often searching for interesting gifts to take home. Many sailors often commissioned highly popular framed shell compositions from local artists, typically framed in octagonal mahogany frames displaying beautiful shells in colorful designs. When they sailed into their home port these beautiful Sailor's Valentines were presented to their wives or sweethearts.
